West Berks IBC has pleasure in hosting Semi Final 2 of the Wessex on Sunday, 26th March, 2023 at 11 am when Victory will face Dolphin. Semi Final 1 is being played simultaneously at Tamworth when Bromsgrove play Welford.
Update: Dolphin were victorious over Victory and now face Bromsgrove in the Final at Malvern Hills on Sunday, 2nd April.
The Wessex League was founded in 1983 as a Men’s premier bowls league offering top class competition to major indoor clubs on a regular basis. There are currently 54 clubs in the league spanning 12 counties. West Berks IBC play in the Thames region made up of 9 clubs. Well done to the ‘A’ team who reached the Quarter Finals and came second in the Thames League and to the ‘B’ team in their inaugural season coming 7th. Further info on www.wessexbowlsleague.co.uk
Representing England in the Senior Fours – West Berks IBC members (l-r) Fred Brown, Richard Kozlowski, Derek Parsonson and Tony Aubrey.
The four were victorious in the Preliminary Round against Scotland held at Abbeyview Indoor Bowls Club on 13th March 2023 by 27 shots to 19.
The next day they faced Ireland in the Semi-Final. Our guys performed well and were 18-18 on the 17th end, a real nail biter, but unfortunately it was not to be and they were defeated by 24 shots to 19, but what an achievement to represent your country. Well done guys! You’ve made your club proud.
Well done also to . . .
The Wessex League ‘A’ Team for a win against Ilminster IBC. They now face Dolphin in the Quarter Finals (Home & Away) on Sunday, 19th March at 10 am. Unfortunately the West Berks lads lost out to Dolphin.
Players are reminded of the following points of etiquette:
When at the head, bear in mind that some bowlers like a clear view of the rink markers. Stand behind the head, inside the rink markers, but not obscuring the central rink number.
Standing directly behind the jack in white shoes can make the jack difficult to see.
Players at the mat-end of the rink who are not delivering a bowl should stand at least 1 metre behind the mat.
Call or shout at your own bowls by all means – but do not ‘call’ your opponents bowls to go through gaps, get ‘wrecked’, or to promote your bowls.
Do not applaud or cheer an unintended bowl from the opposition which results in an advantage to your team.
Wishing misfortune on your opponents bowls is unsporting.
