New LED Lighting

The club has upgraded all of its lighting to LED. We hope this will be appreciated by its members.

Here are a few of the questions / answers about the change:

1)            What was involved?

Replacement of the Rink, Lounge and Dining lighting with similar size LED panels, replacing any small existing light units and the external Flood lights.

2)            Will the cost eventually save the club money?

We should see a reduction in our lighting bill of around £4,000 / year. A Carbon Energy Grant has been successfully awarded for £5,000. Cost of upgrade will be recovered in 4-5 years and then provide a substantial saving to the club running cost.

3)            What is the LED lighting like and how long will it last

Rink LED lighting will provide a ‘Daylight’ presentation with the Lounge / Dining Room being ‘Warm White’, which should give a pleasant contrast.

Rink lighting ‘LUX’ level now complies with Sports England guidance for Indoor Bowls Clubs

LED units are now providing 15 – 25 years usage.

5)            Are we changing to soon, could we be guinea pigs?

Camdon Lighting have installed over 50 LED lighting scheme’s for Indoor Bowls clubs., so this should give us confidence that it is now time to change.

Many thanks

West Berks Men – Denny Plate Finalists – 8th April 2018

It was 8.30 am on a damp Sunday morning when a coach of players and supporters set off on the journey to Nottingham IBC for the Final of the Denny Plate. Spirits were high and a good crowd cheered on the West Berks Men but they were up against a strong team in South Shields. All four rinks made a good start but South Shields kept creeping ahead and eventually West Berks were out-bowled by 93 shots to 47. Well done to South Shields on the win but congratulations to West Berks Men for reaching the Final of the Denny Plate – a first for West Berks IBC – an achievement for which the Club is rightly proud. Very well done to all players and a big thanks to all the travelling supporters. A great day for the Club!

WEST BERKS MEN IN THE FINAL OF THE DENNY PLATE

History was made on Saturday, 10TH March when the West Berks Men bowled their way into the final of the national Denny Plate competition with a victory over Hounslow IBC. Congratulations to the team on this outstanding achievement, a first for West Berks.

Following the Denny Plate format, two rinks were played at West Berks and two away at Hounslow over 21 ends. The match was close throughout and at 20 ends West Berks were ahead by one shot at 79-78. But on the last end Hounslow were holding 4 shots with one West Berks bowl to play. It felt like the world stopped still as skip Martyn Chant prepared to deliver his bowl. Not one to succumb to pressure, Martyn was able to cut the deficit down to one shot bringing the score level at 79 all. This forced the extra end to be played by Gordon Ballantyne’s rink at Hounslow. Nerves were on edge at West Berks and Hounslow as the two clubs waited to see who would go through to the final, nail biting stuff. Fortunately for West Berks, lead Mike Blizzard delivered a front toucher with his second bowl which stayed put throughout the end and proved to be the winning shot.  West Berks won through to the final by 80 shots to 79 !

Commiserations to Hounslow IBC, a strong side, who played the match in good spirit.

The Final of the EIBA National Championship Denny Plate will be played at Nottingham IBC on Sunday 8th April at 1.30pm between West Berks IBC and South Shields IBC.

A coach will take West Berks players and supporters, further details will be posted on the board.
The West Berks bowlers would like to say a huge Thank You to all the support that turned out on Saturday, both at home and the travelling support at Hounslow. It really makes a difference.

In return, the Club would like to say, ‘Well done, chaps. You’re in the Final!’
