West Berks IBC had great pleasure in hosting the very popular Open Singles Circuit* tour event over the weekend of 16/17th February. 64 players from all corners of the UK descended on the club to play, not only for ranking points, but also for a superb prize fund of £2,200.
WBIBC Event Organiser Jon Bennett commented “Local players gave a good account of themselves. Michael Knight (a previous event winner) played some great stuff but just came up short in the second round. Donna Knight, having lost the first set, came back well but just missed out. Richard Kozlowski, who had qualified through the West Berks qualifying event, got through to the second round in his first appearance on the OSC tour.” Other WBIBC players taking part were Nik Elphick, Barry Williams and Bob Harris.
After gruelling rounds played over the two days, the event culminated in the Grand Final on Sunday evening. The WBIBC OSC event winner was Pat Briscoe from Folkestone with Ben Paulley from Dorset finishing as runner up. Congratulations to both players.
The event was a great success and well attended with many club members enjoying watching the event for the first time. You can catch up with some of the games via YouTube and on the OSC Facebook page.
*The Open Singles Circuit is a circuit of club owned and run open singles events throughout the UK, where all the results from all the events earn all the players ranking points which contribute to the OSC Rankings List. The rankings list is reset at the start of each new season to reward each player’s current form. Local sponsorship and the player’s entry fees form the prize fund for each local event. At the end of each season the top ranked players on the OSC Rankings List qualify for the Grand Final event, which is fully funded by OSC and updated live over the internet for bowls fans all over the world.
